What do most of your fears revolve around? What are four simple strategies to help you work through your fear? How can you take the pressure off?

Co-host Lauren Trantham and I talk through what’s going on when we experience fear and real-life strategies that will help us work through it. If you experience fear and anxiety in your life, you must listen to this episode!

What Fear Does

I found this quote by Soledad O’Brien so inspiring:

“I have learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom, how great is that?”

Fear gets in our way, and we get frozen by it.

What We Fear

Many fears revolve around the question: “Are people going to like me?” Being ostracized back in the day had very negative consequences and brought up issues of survival.  Today, we worry if we’re lovable and have worth.

For me post-cancer, I have so many “What if” fears: What if the cancer comes back? What if I’m not living my biggest life? What if I’m not happy? What if I forget to take my medication?

“Cancer amplifies the good and shrinks the bad.” – Jennifer Rozenbaum

“You can’t compare hurts and you can’t compare fears and you can’t compare anxieties. We are all going through things.” – Lauren Trantham

Four Strategies to Help You Work Through Fear

  1. Ask yourself if your fear is real.
  2. Get to the root of why you’re feeling this way.
  3. Talk to your friends who can remind you of the truth about you.
  4. Talk to an expert like Oceanic Counseling Group and see how you can conquer your fear.
  5. Tell your fear, “Thank you for looking out for me and sharing. I’m going to do this anyway.”

Conclusion:

Embrace your fear. Thank it. Let it go. You can take the pressure off by reframing how you feel about trying something new by thinking of it as testing and trying.
